Paris, 1791. King Louis XVI and his queen prepare to escape the capital and the revolutionary crowds baying for their royal blood. You are among their closest friends and confidants, sworn to escort them safely to the eastern frontier.

No one would have believed that these affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space... and yet, minds immeasurably superior to our own regarded France with envious eyes....

And slowly, and surely, they drew their plans against us (well, against YOU, specifically).

---

CHARACTER CREATION

Character creation will be done on week one, although you can do as much work beforehand as you care to. I'll be using the basic Savage Worlds rule book for this game and not a lot else, so all Edges/Hindrances need to be from the core book.

Everyone is human, so everyone starts with one free Edge. Most of you will likely be French, but you can be from elsewhere in the world if you can think of a compelling reason for them to be in Paris in 1791 and have wormed their way into the king's inner circle. My knowledge of revolutionary history is a bit shaky (hence the aliens), so anything half-convincing is likely to sell. I may insist that everyone take the Loyal Hindrance. No arcane backgrounds in week one, although that may change over the course of the game if you abuse certain alien substances.

Bennies may be awarded for particularly dreadful French accents.

Many of you may be from the nobility, but the Noble/Rich/Very Rich edges are not available as those upstart peasants no longer seem to respect your title and have set fire to your chateau (proletariat bastards!). You start with 500f and all medieval/blackpowder weapons and armour can be equipped.

Week One will begin with you attending King Louis XVI in the Toulouse Palace, preparing to flee the capital. Of course, his rebellious subjects might not be so keen to accommodate your travel plans. After all, the King has an appointment with the guillotine and it would be a shame for him to miss it.

SOME RULES STUFF

Rolling snake eyes is a critical fail and you cannot spend bennies to reroll.

Wounds are capped at 4, so even if you get incapacitated by a lucky shot, one success on the soak roll will keep you in the fight (albeit with a -3 wound modifier).

SOME PERSONAL STUFF

My end of module assignment is due the end of May. It's unlikely to cause me to miss any weeks, but if I am struggling to meet my deadline, I might need to in order to get it done.

Born into the house of the Marquis of pumpernickel has led me to have a turbulent life. As from an early age my family was renounced by the king and all the lands and goods seised. so I had to learn different skills to survive I started travelling to try to learn how to barter for food and goods but I only seem to be able to live hand to mouth ( probably due to being used to the finer things ) , I luckily before my parents lands were removed , I had been to court several times and had the pleasure of associating with Louis who has now grown up and become king I have returned to Paris to ask my childhood friend to give me my title and lands back , unfortunately my timing has never been good and after a couple of years laughing at the right times etc I have finally got my lands back but the peasants who I am trying to get away from are revolting and my lands and title has been removed again !

Haha, poor Rugue. :D

It does sound as though your first loyalty is to your own family, rather than the throne - but you do have a vested interest in seeing the king's crown restored as he has agreed to reinstate your lands/title - likely in compensation for getting him safely out of Paris.

Good character background, you may have an extra benny on week one.

ALIEN DEVICE RULES

The martian weapons in this game will function as weird science devices, rather than firearms. Whenever you pick up a martian weapon, it will have 10PP. Each martian carries a power core, worth 10PP, so you can use this to recharge depleted weapons. The power cores are extremely volatile and can be used as a grenade if you prefer. Rolling snake-eyes while attempting to do so will likely result in the loss of a hand. :p

Bonjour! My name is Monsieur Marcel Cochon-Saucisson, Gentleman of Paris.

I am, like my father and my grandfather were before me, the Royal Executioner of France. That's right, I'm the one getting ahead in the capital punishment game (Excusez-moi, that was just a little of my gallows humour - or should that be Gallic humour?).

Mine is a well respected position and, as a third generation Executioner, the badge of office - a blood red coat - was handed down to me when Papa retired.

I'm not all about the job though, my hobbies include playing violin, growing medicinal herbs in my garden and dissecting the bodies I've executed. My neighbours do complain about me bringing my work home with me though.

I have been booked to carry out hundreds of executions over the years, peasants and nobility, it's all the same to me. Axe, sword or guillotine, they all give me an edge in beheading.

However, recent events are making my workload more...stressful. Lately, I've had to 'finalise' a number of my noble relatives and, while they are glad to have a friendly face up there with them, it is beginning to make my heart heavy.

It's only a matter of time before one of those peasant upstarts makes the connection to my noble background and I'll end up on the sharp end instead.

Most disturbingly, I have received a booking that will change everything. I have been asked to attend the King's own execution as administrator of the blade. If I carry this out then no one, including me, will be safe.

Time, like my clients, is getting short so I have made my way with great haste to the palace at Toulouse to warn the King.

Enough is enough, it time to flee this poisoned nation. Let's go, chop chop!
Why does my D20 only go up to 4?

My name is Jack Montillion. I am a faithful member of the king's musketeers. I have earned the favor of his majesty by saving his life, twice. The second time involved taking a bullet for him.
As a reward the king has promoted me to his personal bodyguard.
Being a musketeer is kind of the family business as both my father and uncle served.

This is the condensed version of my characters background as I'm doing this from my phone.

There is a good chance i might not be able to make it Thursday, as my stepmother has had a stroke and I'm in London atm.
You're on the other side of the rabbit hole. Now it's time to die.

mikeawmids - Thu 2 May - 18:18

I have sent a message to the Coronation Club FB profile asking what the appeal process is, just in case there is no-one on site tonight who can answer that question.

Should have read the posts below better. Looks like I'll be giving it a miss this week.

Garuda - Thu 11 Apr - 17:36

Did club indicate wake will go on all evening? Not a fan of gaming in the bar.

Temrane - Thu 11 Apr - 17:25
