Rex, you can have an A for effort, and you have 1 advantage tonight, but I thought you were Aslan? ;)

Week 4 - any inaccuracies let me know!

The party met Vance Long - a retired Naval officer hitching a lift from Arunissir.

The Martin II clambers out of Arunisiir’s gravity well, and takes her place between the two Gazelles. The Treasure Ship is obviously still damaged; she handles like a drowning cow, and the fresh paint on her aft cannot hide all the scars.

Many of the crew, notably Cargo Chief Niven, feel that the Martin II is too badly damaged and the crew too demoralised to complete the mission. They argue that the Treasure Ship should turn back and return to Tobia – another ship can carry their cargo to the Aslan Hierate.
The captain refuses to listen to any such suggestions.

The Martin II makes the short jump to Acrid and commences refueling.

It'll take three days and Rex and Kane arrange with Hanshaw to smuggle some weapons and equipment to the Martin II via the ship's launch. They also rendezvous with Cpt De Winter and Lance in a bar at the downport.

Once the ship is fueled, the Martin II heads off again out to make the jump to Exe, as the ship is heading out to jump, a kerfuffle occurs on the bridge. At the time it's not sure what happened, but the following transpired:

"After Henshaw completes the jump calculations and gives them to Salvesdes, the marine goes to the quarters of assistant navigator Ven Laffit and kills him. He then takes Laffit’s log-in codes to the ship’s navigation computer. Finally, Salvesdes takes his battle dress from the locker on the crew deck, exits the ship via the airlock on that level and then walks along the hull to the uppermost level. He enters the ship again by forcing open the launch bay airlock and storms the bridge, killing Habinar and Smith.. He inputs the new jump co-ordinates and activates the jump engines.....

After a brief bloody Firefight, Salvedes is incapacitated on the bridge and dragged off to the Brig, not before he manages to kill a Marine.

Now the Martin II is locked on course for an ambush. The crew have a week in jumpspace to prepare for their inevitable confrontation with Hroal’s fleet.

As the enormity of the situation starts to hit home, a meeting is called for all people onboard in the canteen on deck 4. First Officer Jagad chairs the meeting:

"All, as you are aware, there was an altercation on the bridge a few hours ago. It has become clear that Marine Salvedes has betrayed the Imperium. Before being overpowered and sedated he was able to manually alter the jump coordinates for our jump to EXE. In just under seven days, we will arrived in the EXE system 45 million km away from our escort ships. Whilst we do not know what awaits us on arrival at the EXE system, it cannot by good and I think we can assume that we will be subject to some form of attack.

We can also not escape the fact that there might be traitors in our midst and we must be vigilant. I am open to questions and comments from the crw."

Marine Commander Harc speaks up: "Maam, I believe the ship and my soldier were the victims of sabotage. I suspect that there is a Zhodani Agent onboard. It could be any one of us."

Roarhead Rex speaks up and explains that the crew are demoralised and that they shouldn’t continue the mission. However Jagad says the priorityis to continue on the mission and the meeting is brought to a close.

The crew’s dissatisfaction with the ship’s course grows. They elect one of the marines, the popular Jen Laral, to bring their concerns to the senior officers. Roarhead Rex accompanies the Marine. Captain Torsa refuses to listen, and threatens to put Rex in the brig. He announces to the crew that the ship has a vitally important mission to complete for the good of the Imperium, and that nothing will convince him to turn back. Rex can’t help himself and gets himself impounded in the brig.

The mood down below turns even sourer. The crew seem set for a full-on mutiny. A party head up to disarm the senior staff and take over the ship. Bovine and a marine take the bridge - where Jagad is with two of the pilots. They head down to deck two where Bovine releases Rex. Rex then heads to the captain’s quarters and stuns the captain with a weapon passed by Bovine. He’s quickly placed into the brig.

Navigator Osha asks to privately speak to Rex. Sensing the chance slipping away she fills Rex in with some details: Osha comes from the waterworld of Dolberg, in Sindal subsector, and has the genetic modifications common to people from that planet – bluish skin, gills, webbed fingers and strange ridges of body fat. Few ever leave the cold waters of Dolberg, but Osha is an exception. She joined the crew of a tramp trader at the age of fifteen, and has travelled the stars ever since. She ran away because her family name was disgraced with accusations of gene-mod DNA corruption, and on Dolberg, your gene-line counts for everything. Secretly, she’s working for the General Development Corporation. GeDeCo’s agents control the government of Dolberg; they’ve promised to erase the stain on her gene-line if she completes her assigned task. She’s planted a black box device inside the navigation console. This device harvests data from the jump engines and from the locking mechanism of the vault. The calculations needed to crack the vault’s encryption are beyond anything on the ship – but GeDeCo has a computer on Tech-World that uses cutting-edge TL15+ technology. With the right data from the black box, it can crack the vault.

Meanwhile the Harbinger arrives in the EXE system, refuels and rendezvous with Hroal Irontooth.

3 days later, the Martin II completes its jump and as predicted - the coordinates are right next to Hroals fleet. The escort ships jump in over 8hrs away.
The Martin II surrenders and a salvage hauler docks with the Martin II and proceeds to begin offloading cargo. Meanwhile the crews decide what they are going to do next. The Martin II still has the capability for a JUMP2 and the decision is made to jump to TECH WORLD

The crew are asked what they want to do - after all they have been part of a mutiny. Do they want to stay on the ship and wait for the escorts to arrive? They are probably facing a court-marshall - and the rest. Or do they want to be let off at Techworld? Most of the crew decide on that, but the senior crew are placed in the ships escape craft and jettisoned ready for presumed pickup by the escorts who are closing in on the position.

The Martin II and the Harbinger jump for TECH WORLD.
