The open door leads to a corridor. Wolfgar is not deterred and sets about retrieving the gold. It is going to be a long slow process so we decide to all muck in and help Wolfgar.

Sometime later…….

The corridor leads down to a room the walls are lined with stone statues of creatures with human bodies but the heads of a lion or some such creature. They are all holding polearms.

“Not liking the look of this too much, I’ll just check for…” I never got to finish my sentence because Wolfgar pushed past me with reckless abandon and entered the room.

“See nothing bad happened” he exclaimed. I mutter about him getting lucky this time, and ponder how it used to be Madolf that rushed in. The room as I have already said is lined with the statues directly opposite the door is a massive statue of the elephant again it has huge jewels where its eyes should be, the tusks are red and green and as we would find out later made from different materials. Another elongated thin pool of water is in front of the elephant statue. They seem to really like their frescos as more pictures adorn the walls and ceiling, showing strange humanoid beats feasting and fighting. After taking in all the small details and guessing areas of concern or interest, I bring my attention back.

Wolfgar is half way up the elephant statue pulling on the green tusk. Septimus is wondering about touching everything.

“I say”, “My isn’t that interesting”, “Would you look at that”, “It feels cold” you get the idea. Behind me Madolf and Tanith are standing arms crossed just as dismayed at this sight as I. Obviously the elephant statue is not as much of a concern as I feared.

“ERRRHUH, ……CAN’T…..SEEM…..TO………GET……..THIS…….TO…BUDGE” Wolfgar has beads of sweat trickling down his face from the effort. I hop on to the statue and look at the red tusk and take a good look. I carefully unscrew it. I now have a tusk with a screw on the end which is as long as the tusk itself. I get back down and start searching to find somewhere to screw it into.

Wolfgar is still struggling with the other tusk and is trying to unscrew his but is not have any luck. Tanith is now intrigued by the hole where the red tusk I have once was and goes to investigate that.

Septimus’s attention is now consumed by greed and he is eying up the large gems on the statue. Deftly Septimus jumps up landing in the out turned hands, he must have triggered something because just like a Venus fly trap the hands move at lightning speed and are about to clap shut. Septimus jams his staff in between and buys himself a few precious fractions of a second, the hands close on his legs, breaking them. Septimus screams and passes out. Wolfgar first on the scene starts pulling the hands apart and Tanith holds the limp form of Septimus, he carefully puts him on the floor.

“If he were a horse we would shoot him” I say

“We still could” says Madolf who has seen enough idiocy for one day.

“Not sure if my healing can fix this” says Tanith. Wolfgar is stringing his bow.

“We are not shooting him, Wolfgar”

“Aw, Kyrias you know you want to”

“No, although the idea is appealing, he is our friend and besides after all these years he may do something useful. He is due” disappointed Wolfgar breaks his bow back down.

Septimus’s eyes flash open “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” and he passes out again.

“I may have something that can help with that” says Madolf and starts unpacking his hookah, I haven’t seen it for so long now, I had forgotten he’d got it.

Lit and working we put the hookah pipe into Septimus’s mouth and let nature do the rest after about five minutes he wakes up.

“Kyrias, Kyrias have you noticed you can’t say Kyrias without saying ASS!! HEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEH. OOOH OOO Wolfgar’s there is two of you now. I’m going to hide one of you behind my three thumbs” and Septimus moves his hand in front of his face with his thumb up. “Now I see you, now I don’t”

“Are you in pain, Septimus?” asked Tanith

“Why would I be in pain TAN, TAN, TAAA ith”

“Because your legs look like we could slide them under a door”

“MMM, OOOH YEEEES they are a bit flat aren’t they” Septimus stuffs his thumb in his mouth and blows.
“BRRF BRRRF BRRF, hmm, I thought that would have inflated them a……gain.” He puts his hand under a leg and flaps it about.

“What the hell is in that stuff Madolf”

“I dunno, when I smoked it, it made me feel marginally happier”

“It’s that damn constitution of an ox you’ve got”

“OX, OX it rhymes with box, would you like to see my co..”

“No thank you Septimus”

“Are you going to try and mend them Tanith”

“MEND!! YES MEND, Iggly, wiggly, my legs are all jiggly” arcane energy leaves his finger tips floats by his legs and makes a beeline for his shattered staff. The staff is repaired. “Bonus, fixed my staff too” Septimus tries to get up but is unable. “Oh I thought that had worked.”

“Lie back Septimus” Tanith places his hands over his legs. Septimus shoots back up again,
“You’d better not be getting any ideas, I know what you Romans are like. HEHEHEHEHEHEHE” calmly Tanith lies him back down and passes his hand over his legs. Divine power seeps through and we all feel the heat. We watch in horrified fascination as Septimus legs are repaired.
“Mmmm delayed reaction, I don’t need your healing anymore Tan man, I got mending” Septimus breaks out into song to the tune of Mary had a little lamb
“Septimus that’s me, fixed myself.
Fixed myself.
Fixed myself .
Septimus fixed himself and his legs are all better now” he sings.

Madolf has to move back down the corridor away from Septimus to pack his hookah away.

Wolfgar now bored is back at his green tusk. “I’ve tried, twisting it, turning it, pulling it, moving it sid to side………..”

“How does that feel now Septimus” asks tanith
“You two are like mother hens, I feel fine, now go and lay your eggs somewhere else. Go on lay hehehehehehe them somewhere, nice golden eggs” says Septimus.

“……….I haven’t tried pushing it!!!” Wolfgar pushes the green tusk and it recedes back. A thick chocking cloud descends engulfing everyone in the room. I manage to hold my breath and only took half a lungfull, but that hurt like hell. Septimus is looking worse again and Tanith not much better. We retreat back down the corridor shortly followed by Wolfgar.

“Is it dissipating Wolfgar?” I ask

“Nope it’s hanging round like a thick cloud” For the want of something else to do, I search the corridor for somewhere to put the screw as the room had yielded no results, and as luck would have it I found it. I screwed the tusk in pulled the handle and heaved on the door. A new corridor revealed itself. That wasn’t the only thing revealing itself.

“Ta Da, look I’m an elephant, see Tanith………Madolf look an hehehehehehe elephant”

“Put that away Septimus” says Madolf

I pop my head round the door “Found a passage, just saying that’s all” and return to my new corridor and go down it, I am followed by Wolfgar.

It leads to a room, with burning red candles set into ornate candelabras, in the middle of the room close to the wall to the north is an altar and on top of the altar a scroll, possibly the incantation we seek. The floor has several rugs and tapestries adorn the walls. Carefully I pick my way round the room, the sweet smell of the candles fills my nostrils and I examine the altar.

“Look Wolfgar, a hairline crack all the way round, I bet the altar sinks into the floor, if it is touched”

“What like this” and Wolfgar places his sword on the altar, the altar does indeed sink and the far wall starts to move towards us. I move out of the room.

“Ha, I’ve seen this before” says Wolfgar “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. It is illusionary Kyrias, look I’ll prove it to you.” With that he walks towards the wall, adopts a rather pathetic pose. He is holding his sword in one hand against his chest with his legs crossed and his other hand in the air. The wall hit his sword and forces him back. “Ah, maybe this one is real”. All this nonsense with Wolfgar and I’ve forgotten about the incantation. Wolfgar hurries out of the room, just as I dive in and grab the scroll. I just make it out of the room. In my mind I had plenty of time, but I only just made it. Something is amiss. I spin my daggers like I have done countless times before but fluff it completely; it is as if I am no longer dexterous as I used to be.

Looking at the scroll, it has the familiar cuneiform writing Wolfgar takes it to Septimus to decipher.

“I can’t read this, its gibberish” says Septimus.

“No look its cuneiform, you’ve read it hundreds of times before.”

“I didn’t say I couldn’t read it, because I couldn’t read it, I can’t read it because it is gibberish” Septimus snaps back to his addled brain. “hehehehhehehe, Look at the little pixie”

“Has he got his thing out again” asks Wolfgar

“Yup” replies Madolf

“Either of you coming” Wolfgar asks Madolf and Tanith. Tanith wants to rest and Madolf wants to wait till we can all go together. “Carry on if you must shout us if you need us, and you can take that with you” says Madolf pointing at Septimus.

They go back through to the room with the moving wall and see a door that I found that was behind the wall, I’d opened it and used my time to go cautiously down another corridor, pictures line the walls and the elephant appears several times, when Septimus sees this he says.

“Wolfie, have you seen my elephant?”

“Yes I have, thank you”

“Oh. Kyrias have you…..”

“Yes Septi…………….mus” as I fall down a hole covered by illusionary magic, Septimus broke my concentration. The ceiling looks like the floor and I am unable to see thought it. Unsure what if anything has happened to my comrades I set about setting myself free. I get my grappling hook and rope and throw it up, where it passes through the illusion and out of my view.

“When did Kyrias become able to cast magic?” asked Septimus

“No I don’t think….” said Wolfgar until he was interrupted.

“I’m the only one who casts magic round here.” Continued Septimus

“No I think he fe….”

“Listen Wolfgar there are two types of magician in this world, the ones who can hurt things and kill people, the ones who do useful stuff and then there is me the other type. So I will not have Kyrias knocking me off the top spot of being the best spell caster in our group, I will not at all”

“No I think he fell through a hole” Wolfgar managed to finally say.
“If there was a hole, do you not think we would be able to see it?” said Septimus. Wolfgar looked at Septimus and did not notice the grappling hook come flying overhead, but he did notice it when it hit him
At the bottom of the pit I pulled on the rope and did not find any purchase, but the hook came through the ceiling and hit me on the head. I was about to have another go when a rope appeared, I pulled it and it felt secure so I clambered up at full speed. Wolfgar was holding the other end.
“Where is everyone else Wolfgar?”

“I’m here Kyriiii ASSS”

“Now I’m reassured Septimus”

“Tanith. Is praying he is in a bad way and wants to rest up.”

“And Madolf?”
“He says he is fed up of the three of us, you are excluded Kyrias, of setting off traps and beasts and expecting him to save us”

“I see, he really has turned into quite the big girls blouse since he started praying to AL, I thought it was never going to last, but it has, and I think I prefer this softer smarter side.” I say

“I have to agree, but it would be nice to see him attack something with the same kind of relish and venom as he did a couple of years ago.” Said Wolfgar.

“Yeah, I know what you mean, it’s like his hearts not in it anymore. I gotta say though I really do like the new Madolf. He has a lot going for him.”

Septimus licks his fist and rubs his face, ”Madolf, Meew. HEHEHEHEHEHE”

“What about you Wolfgar?” I ask

“Me, I just want to get out of here now.”

“Me too, lets crack on.” With that we jump the pit, help Septimus over and enter the room. Four braziers are suspended in each corner and a large sarcophagus larger than any of the others lies in the middle of the room and a raised dais. On the far wall is a large statue with six arms all carrying various weapons and each side of the head has a different face. More ornate tapestries and rugs adorn the room and the ceiling is covered by two large banners. We carefully plot our way round the room and find nothing of interest, not hidden passages, no small dart holes, it looks clean. I cautiously approach the sarcophagus and start examining it. My fingers seem to lack the dexterity they had before and I brush the sarcophagus with the merest of touches. The green banner shakes and turns into a swarm of insects.

The insects swarm all over us, individually they are a nuisance but all together they pack a powerful punch. I run to a brazier and the insects don’t approach, the fumes must keep them at bay, following my lead Septimus runs to another one and Wolfgar joins me at mine.

“I got this Kyrias” Wolfgar opens his backpack and pulls out a scroll he found. He reads it and a fireball erupts forth striking the swarm, it is severely hampered but it is not destroyed. Septimus has cut his brazier cord and walks over to us, passing it to me so I can continue checking out the sarcophagus. The insects are chewing at the ropes of the red banner on the ceiling. When the fumes of the brazier touch the insects they shrivel up and die. Wolfgar is going round the room destroying the swarm. They finally chew through the last cord holding the banner up and it floats to the floor and as soon as it touches it, it transforms into a monstrous snake. It strikes out at me and inflicts quite a serious amount of pain.

“MADOLF, TANITH” shouts Wolfgar, at the same time he strikes the snake.

“MADOLF, TANITH” I shout also striking the creature. We continue this and the snake quickly fall to our combined onslaught.

The formerly inanimate statue with the four heads comes to life and starts beating on us.

“Coming shouts Madolf”

“Comi…arrrrr….” Shouts Tanith as he falls down the pit Madolf helps him out meanwhile Septimus has cast a displacement spell on Wolfgar and I and has a copy of himself, trying to make the statue miss. Wolfgar, and I are flanking it, and taking some serious damage, when Tanith and Madolf arrive and attack from the front. Septimus still addled brain has him fighting in a corner. The fight is long and hard and I did not see the end, because the statue felled me, so how it was destroyed and who landed the final blow are mysteries no know to me. All I can tell you is a mighty big argument has taken place and Madolf has given me his last potion.
Opening the sarcophagus we find the scroll we see and inside are many jars, they contain coin, gems and vials of liquid. The djinn appears.

“Well done brave warriors, I shall take you to the next location”

It is dark……………………………….

…………………. And then it is light. We have appeared in a forest but constructed of trees and plants with foliage that we have not seen before. The noises created by the areas inhabitants are foreign to our ears. The sky is hidden by the thick canopy of the trees, all I can tell you for certain is it is daytime because it is light.

The arid dry heat that we had become accustomed to has been replaced by a hot humidity that makes your clothes stick to you, this is no place for a caftan. We appear to be at a crossroads of a forest path, none of us know which way to go, MAdolf, Wolfgar and I have tried to find any kind of tracks and we have nothing to show for our efforts.

Septimus on the other hand is sniffing the air. “This way” he says,

“Why this way, why not that way” asks Wolfgar

“You can go that way but you will come back this way and want to go that way, see” says Septimus.

“Errrr?”

“Lead on Septimus, but why do we want to go this way.”

“Ah well Kyrias, I smell water this way and as you remember this artifact is at the beginning of the everlasting cycle”

“I think he’s lost it again Kyrias, he is experiencing some kind of Flashback” says Tanith.

“It is as good a choice as any other” I say. The path twists and turns and Wolfgar makes out the tell tale signs of a dried up riverbed.

“This is a dried up riverbed. But…..” he bends down touches the ground, picking up some dirt and rubbing it through his finger. “It looks like it recently flooded, within the last day or so”

“You sure this is the right way to go Septimus?” I ask

“I am” we carry on flowing the river bed and it splits into two levels just as it starts to rain the lower level has water in it and forms a small plateau before a sheer rock face. The other way has a small incline which in my book is good thing. SPLOOSH!!! I turn round and Madolf has jumped in the water on the lower level.

“Twice in the same week let alone the same decade, Madolf!!” says Wolfgar

“Yeah well I kinda enjoyed it to be honest, it felt nice being clean” the rest of us huddle together

“What do you think happened to him? Is it some kind of head injury?”

“I really don’t know, maybe all that stuff he smoked has addled his brain”

“What addled his brain in a positive manner?”

“Stranger things have happened at sea”

“But we’re not at sea”

“It’s a figure of Speech Tanith”

“Maybe Madpox is having a strange affect on him”

“What do you think happened at sea, that a figure of speech was made out of it?”

“What?”

“Think about it, if anytime something weird is happening and people say, stranger things have happened at sea, then what happened at sea that was so amazingly strange?”

“Coming in?” shouts Madolf. The water has turned a funny shade of grey and is bubbling.

“Nah good thanks” A deep rumble resonates around the walls.

“How about some badger surprise?” asks Madolf

“What!!!!???? We haven’t been in Europe for eight months, in searing heat and you have Badger Surprise left.”

“Never goes off does it, that part of its charm!!” A trickle of water touches our feet and by the time I have looked down it has risen the top of the sole of my shoe.

“Get out of there, WATER!!!” there is nowhere for us to run to. By the time we have helped Madolf out of the smaller pool it is at our knees. Nowhere for us to go except up, I grab my iron spikes and hammer and set about making an escape route. By the time I have four spikes set the water is so strong and Septimus is having difficulty standing, I help him onto the first spike and carry on. Sheer strength and willpower keeps Madolf, Tanith and Wolfgar standing. The water at its peak is at neck height and then it subsides as quickly as it arrived. Spetimus climbs back down and joins the others, but I am so close to the top now I carry on.

I haul myself over the ledge and meet a wall of vegetation there is no way forward, I carefully check out the ledge but there is no possibility of moving forward from here, I am just about to climb down when I see a vine nestled in the vegetation and the other end attached further away.

Here is what I learnt:
1) When you want to swing on vine, ensure that the vine is shorter than the drop.
2) Once you start you can’t stop, even letting go you discover inertia is not your friend.
3) To stop, it is preferable to allow the laws of thermo dynamics to kick in other than a rock face.
4) What happens when a stoppable force hit an unmovable object

“You alright Kyrias” asked Wolfgar as their face encircle my vision, I am flat on my back and the last thing I remember is swinging on a vine.

“That was rather a stupid thing to do, Kyrias” says Septimus “You may have damaged my last toga”

“I had you pegged as smarter than that” said Madolf and they carry on following the muddy river bed.

Feeling foolish, and sore I got up and followed them, the river bed opened out into a bayou the water still, the humidity had gone up a notch and none of us like the idea of wading through.

“I’ll build a raft” said Madolf. After a couple of hours Madolf is nearing the end of his raft building exercise.
“When I said I would build a raft, I didn’t actually mean me all on my own, with you standing around watching me” The raft was sturday and well constructed and we used Septimus’s staff as a quant pole.

It was very peaceful and quite relaxing, my nose bleed subsided and the ringing in my ears dulling I saw a thin tendril a mere wisp of silk, and my first thought was spiders. I dodged the tendril and warned the others about them. When I saw a large spider I threw a dagger at it, I must have caught it just right because it fell into the water. Tanith, Madolf Septimus made light work of the others, it was over so quick Wolfgar didn’t even draw his sword.

The bayou was large and we just kept going until we saw a small island. Septimus cast a s spell and declared the place extremely magical.

“The start of the everlasting cycle” said Septimus

“Eh?” said Wolfgar

“The water flows down the mountain forms a river and flows to the sea, where it evaporates turns into rain and comes down the mountain. An everlasting cycle” Said Septimus without sounding remotely like a teacher. Wolfgar moves towards the island and before any of us can react he spins round and fall into the water with an arrow sticking out of his back. Madolf helps him back onto the raft.

I look for the creature and spot a humanoid upper body on arachnid’s legs , a terrifying sight. I throw a dagger at it catching it and it moves back. Tanith starts sulking because he hasn’t got a ranged weapon.

“Really?” Asks Septimus

“Really!” Replies Tanith

“Even I have a crossbow.” Says Septimus drawing the string.

“I’ve never seen you with a crossbow before” says Tanith.

“There was a time, when all he did was shoot that damn thing at everything”

“Ah! Yes happy days”

“Er. Excuse me it nice to reminisce and all, but this really is not the time”

“Tanith has got a ranged weapon Kyrias, and he is blaming you” says Madolf
“ Me, I never stopped you in the last three years from buying stroke acquiring a bow, crossbow or daggers. Don’t blame me for your lack of kit, I have enough to carry with my own and Lord bossy toga” and I jump off the raft and into the trees. Wolfgar returns the favor and shoots at the creature but misses.

The trees are not a very stable platform and it is precarious, moving, swinging, and shifting. I make a lunge for the creature trying to bring it to the ground but my footing goes and I crash into the water. The raft is engulfed in darkness and all I can hear our my friends voices.

“It’s dark in here init”
“Has night fell, that was quick”
“I think you will find that is a spell, called darkness.”
“Can you cast that Septimus”
“Why would I want too”
“Here we go again, can you yes or no”
“Er No”

Wolfgar walks of the raft and back into the light, he tries to climb a tree but seems unable to climb. Septimus leaves the raft as well and mutters under his breath. I large basilisk appears and the creature moves further back, obviously it fears this terrible creature. I am told Septimus also cast an illusion that had an arrow pointing at the creature so they could fire at it. Alternatively they could just move off the raft.

The Spider hits me with two mini fireballs, I get my grappling hook and throw it into the branches of the tree above. It finds purchase so I tug on it but the branch snaps, making it easier to see the creature. Wolfgar fires again and two arrows leave the raft but they all miss. I try the grappling hook again and find a good purchase and quickly climb the rope. Another volley of arrows all miss. I make an attack but find the terrain awkward and slip, luckily I manage to regain my composure and hang on, but I get a trident in my chest for my efforts.

“MADOLF, TANITH GET OFF THAT RUDDY RAFT” I shout

“NOT GOT A RANGED WEAPON, I’M NOT COMING” Replies a grumpy Tanith

“MADOLF!!!!!” Reluctantly Madolf shambles off the raft and enters the fray. Wolfgar climbs my rope and slashes the creature, but the additional weight has shifted the branches and once again I have unstable footing, it hits me with its trident and nearly knocks me out of the tree. I hold on to a branch.

The creature mumbles and hits Septimus with a bolt of lightning, knocking into the water, a scorched Septimus with a singed toga gets up. I hope he knows once he changes that is his last toga.

“Kyrias, Kyrias stop that this instant. Mucking about up there, what on earth do you think you are doing”

Madolf has climbed the tree and leaps at the creature with his axe in his hands, he lands a mighty blow, stunning the creature. I get up and strike the creature but hit an invisible force field but it gave Wolfgar the impetus to land a good blow which kills the creature.

Clambering down we re-group and Tanith casts his healing magic over us. Turning our attention back to the island for the first time the source of all this water is a cup that is on its side and water is coming out of it. Wolfgar picks the cup up and puts it vertical and it stops. Leans it over and water gushes forth again.

The Djinn appears and transports us to the Titan.

It is day, but it is freezing here, the land is barren and almost dead, even the desert had more life. By Jupiter it is cold here.

“What’s the plan” asks Wolfgar.

“We’ve never bothered before” Says Tanith.

“Fair enough but we need one this time” says Wolfgar

“Okay, I’ll read the incantation” Says Septimus “Kyrias can pour the water all round it removing its ties to the earth. And the rest of, the rest of you can stick it with this spear” and he thrust the Spear of Destiny into Tanith’s hands and they pulse with divine energy. “Plan enough for you Wolfie”.

“Okay, just asking”

The plan was magical I, ran round soaking the earth with water and removing the Titan’s power, Madolf rushed forward and nearly broke himself a blow that would killed a normal person, but did not affect the Titan. Septimus cast Displacement on Wolfgar and made three mirror images of himself.

The Titan stamped his foot on Madolf, we all thought Madolf dead, but he was still alive, and climbed out of the hole. The Titan noticed Tanith when he struck him with the spear. The Titan attacked all of us but we continued with the plan Wolfgar helped me pour the water the two of us created a larger area than either of us could do alone. Tanith and Madolf both used the spear to distract the Titan, whilst Septimus cast the incantation to banish him.

The rift was opening and the Titan seemed to notice it for the first time and started hurling boulders at Septimus, he hit an image but eventually hit the real Septimus, when the dust settled there he stood steadfast, still reading. When he finished the last syllable of the last word the Titan, the horde and the rift all disappeared.

And here we are somewhere in England with three artifacts, no food or water, barren landscape and lifeless ruling out foraging for food.

“Badger Surprise Anyone?” says Madolf with a wicked glint in his eye.

For all of you who have read these posts, I have a confession. The posts are light hearted whereas the game could be very dark in places. The game was beautiful crafted and was a wonderful world to explore.

I would like to thank Mark for creating such a place for us to romp round and create such wonderful vibrant characters. The game world and story was created and scripted beautifully.

I would like to thank, Matt, Gaz, Adam, and Vic for creating such memorable characters, everyone had nuances of their own. There is no higher praise of character creation than we witnessed last night, when victors character Madolf did an exceptional impersonation of Septimus.

Thank you, thank you all.
