Thanks Gary for the rulebook. I've flicked through and am thinking Dark Elf Fighter, with an emphasis on acrobatic swashbuckling, rather than brute force. Is this agreeable with the GM?

If not, dwarven brawler with a deathwish.

Can you multiclass in 13th Age?
