So, how are we generating ability scores?

3d6 ironman style?
4d6 and drop the lowest?
A standard array?
Are we re-rolling ones?

And before anybody asks - no, I haven't looked at what it says in the PHB under character creation.

Standard array with a slight bonus...
Either a +1 on top stat
Or
Two +1 on other stats
So...
16 14 13 12 10 8
Or...
15 15 14 12 10 8

Any race or class. Bear in mind the adventures begins with all characters as captives of the drow. So special gear will not be available. Dark vision might be useful. You're in the under dark.
