Gary!

Having read your profile and referenced the adventure, you may be interested in coming from the Blue Bear clan or Uthgardt barbarians. They are believed to be extinct and keep their movements secretive to preserve this belief among their rivals. Of all the tribes wondering the Sword Coast (and there are loads!), the Blue Bear tribe seem best suited to the character outlined in your post.

Andy!

Having consulted the adventure book, I have found a site where your accident could have happened. The nearby town you could be from is called Jalanthar. How do you feel about having an ancient ghost shaman of the Blue Bear Tribe giving you your powers and communicating to you in dreams? It also creates a link between you and Gary's character.

Well, I chose a Damaran character from that region for a few reasons: I went for the Outlander background type, caused by his exile from his village. The Great Dale area was ideal for that as it is quite remote from the Sword Coast. His people tend to shun non clerical magic hence the Wild Magic element. But the main reason was that the ancient war between Narfell and Raumathar resulted in areas of the land being rich and unsafe with dormant magic.I tried to carefully weave it all in to suit his background and character

However, if it fits your story better I can go with the Blue Bear thing!

Ha, you've clearly put a lot of thought into the lore that I did not initially appreciate! My apologies!

I was just making suggestions after flipping through the book, no need to change anything if you are happy!
