STORM KING'S THUNDER

Players: Andrek, Moc, Antidog, Crusader Hank, Fruit Viking & Sprite_Goblin89

"Giants have emerged from their strongholds to threaten civilization as never before. Hill giants are stealing all the grain and livestock they can while stone giants have been scouring settlements that have been around forever. Fire giants are press-ganging the smallfolk into the desert, while frost giant longships have been pillaging along the Sword Coast. Even the elusive cloud giants have been witnessed, their wondrous floating cities appearing above Waterdeep and Baldur s Gate. Where is the storm giant King Hekaton, who is tasked with keeping order among the giants?
The humans, dwarves, elves, and other small folk of the Sword Coast will be crushed underfoot from the onslaught of these giant foes. The only chance at survival is for the small folk to work together to investigate this invasion and harness the power of rune magic, the giants weapon against their ancient enemy the dragons. The only way the people of Faerun can restore order is to use the giants own power against them."

CHARACTER CREATION: Any race/class combo from core rules. For your stats, roll 4 and drop the lowest, re-roll any total lower than 11. Characters are travelling towards the town of Nightstone (named for the magical obelisk in the center of the town), think of a reason for wanting/needing to go there.

When you have an idea about your character, feel free to post an outline here for me and the other players to see.

CHARACTER ADVANCEMENT: Technically, Storm King's Thunder is intended for a party of level 5 heroes, but there is an 'introductory' chapter designed to get you from level 1 > 5 in a hurry, which we will be starting with. You will likely be gaining levels very quickly (maybe even twice in one evening!) until you hit level 5, then it will s-l-o-w right the **** down as the campaign gets very sandboxy at this point.

The adventure is written to terminate around level 11, it will likely take several full rotations to complete. Returning characters will be given priority when I continue this adventure in 2017.

CHARACTER JOURNALS: Anyone keeping a character journal (written from your character's perspective) and posting it to the website will be rewarded with cumulative, in-game bonus' week on week. This could range from inspiration die, to gold, to magical items or creative control over elements of the adventure. I will play this by ear. While I plan to make this worthwhile for anyone that makes the effort, I don't want to unbalance the campaign.

Any questions, let me know!

Many thanks!
I hope I won't upset anyone by joining in!

On a quick note; I've never played before and am extremely unfamiliar with the rules. I am doing a bit of research when I can, but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the rules/editions/char creation rules. I'll apologise a thousand times in advance for the silly questions I'll no doubt be asking!

I own no gear as of yet, and for the now am low on funds; what would be the suggested equipment to get for my first campaign?

Finally, I've not found anything too explicit online, so I'm afraid I'll have to ask, is a half-orc druid acceptable for this campaign? I intend on playing a scouting/support role. I understand it's an uncommon mix of race/class, but I feel that I could RP this with great enthusiasm.

Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!
Conner

Welcome Conner!

I hope I speak for all of use when I say there's no need to worry about knowing the rules - we all had to start somewhere. As for gear, just go with the standard loadout in the Player's Handbook - you can always get stuff later. Try to make sure you have a light source - although if you're playing a half-orc , they have darkvision so less of a problem I suppose.

Hi guys. In case it helps with people's choices, I'm intending to go for a sorcerer this time. I'm still deciding between human or tiefling though. I've got a back story sorted already which I'll post shortly. It's too difficult on a mobile!
Why does my D20 only go up to 4?

Since sprite_goblin is playing a druid, I won't play one as well; probably go for human rogue instead. I assume crusader_hank is still playing his barbarian, so that gives us a reasonable spread of classes.
