TOPIC: New Members having trouble joining website

I've been monitoring our FB page and adjacent groups and have noticed a theme where potential new members become aware of our club, visit website, try to join website, cannot join website, then lose interest in club.

I know we have had issues with bots and that's why we had to bump up security around new members joining website.

I am gonna' look into setting up a club Whatsapp profile that we can direct new folk to (FB recommended doing it once, but I did not follow up at the time).
EDIT: Urgh, apparently Whatsapp for Business is a whole different thing. Will investigate further.

Any other suggestions how we can make club more approachable for new people? Any new(ish) members care to share their own experience of joining the club (how easy/difficult it was to join club, get into a game, etc)?

I joined like 10 years ago and I just turned up one night and muscled my way into a Warhammer 40k game that Pookie was running, but sure your own experiences are different.

I too would have joined well before I did because I encountered the same issues, some may see my delayed arrival as a blessing or a lucky escape for the club but I fully understand the issue.
It has been discussed before, there has to be a better way, more active Facebook for starters s that's where most people look these days, forums are useful for organising stuff and it is good to see other stuff going on.
I think to push Facebook and recruit through there. A link to the Facebook group on the forum perhaps, then folks can be vetted there.

Also there needs to be more people who can post on the Facebook page. Gms should be able to post their games up as updates.

Hi Sant. I approved your request for FB access, and posted a test link to WhatsApp group to FB, if someone who isn't already in the group can check that plz before I sticky it to top of feed.

I do post a summary of all games being run to the FB every rotation, but other folks can post updates/pictures whenever - or should be able to, right? Can members not currently post stuff to the club FB wall?

I have temporarily deleted post, since it seems you were able to join without validation simply by clicking link, and it seems unwise to give strangers that kind of unrestricted access before being vetted.

At least we know it works, just need to fine tune how/when we allow new folk to access it.

EDIT: Which is the exact problem we have with new members joining site, lol.
