Background For Half-Elf Warlock Tashan Illest

As I have little talent for storytelling, I've just laid down the facts.

Tashan Illest grew up in the Half-Elf slums in a city in Aerenal. Raised by the streets Tashan always wanted to see a better life. He frequently had vivid dreams of a purple cave and a huge black sword. In his early teens he snuck a ride with a merchant trader on his way to the capital. Unfortunately the caravan was ambushed by bandits and all were killed except Tashan who hid until it was over.

Looking for shelter Tashan found a cavern and found himself being drawn deep into it until he found a pool with a large rock in the centre. In the rock was a purple bladed longsword.
When he pulled the sword from the rock he lost consciousness. When he awoke he felt different somehow. He knew this had something to do with the dreams he had but no idea what happened. He found himself at the entrance of the cave dressed in black leather and when he eventually saw his reflection he had aged as well.

He wandered Aerenal and after many minor encounters he found he had many new abilities. After years of wandering he made friends along the way but never found anywhere he felt totally comfortable. His dreams changed to Bronze Dragons, powerful undead and deserts.

He eventually found himself drawn to the capital and while there he was approached by a representitive of an aid to the undead council. On meeting the aid who had a surprising familiarity with Tashan, tasked him with finding a group and investigating the goings on in the Chult region. A suitable reward was promised. (This last bit is subject to Andy's approval naturally.)

Being well travelled and having met many people Tashan had several candidates in mind and any party members who wish their characters to be friends/ have met Tashan can feel free to add that to their backgounds.

Are you using or would you consider using the homebrew option of trading armour proficiencies for unarmored defence?

Don’t know the rules. Not particularly keen on home brew. If you want to PM me the details or post them here then I can review and advise.

The idea of unarmored defence is one of my favourite things in 5e. And I don't think it should be restricted to would be Conan's or Kung fu masters.

Unarmored Defense

This variant class feature can be taken by any class with proficiency with light and medium armor. This class feature replaces all of the class's armor proficiencies, except for shield proficiency.

Choose one of the following options:

Constitution-based

While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.

Wisdom-based

While you are not wearing any armor and not wielding a shield, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Wisdom modifier.

Ok - thanks for posting the home brew rules. I’m gonna say no again here. Play a Barbarian if you want Dex and Con based unarmored defence or a Monk if you want Dex and Wis based unarmored defence. IMO this home brew rule sucks.
